Master Math EOC Reflection
Master Math 1 is a class for students taking any type of math class especially those taking Algebra 1. The class teaches you the basic skills of math. It teaches you different ways and techniques to remember the material being taught. It teaches you things like fractions. Adding and subtracting them using common denominators, multiplying and dividing, reducing, converting to mixed numbers from improper fractions, and comparing fractions.
In this class, we learned about the different forms of small numbers, such as converting a fraction to a percentage and decimal, converting percentages into decimals or fractions, and converting decimals to percentages or fractions, which are now all pretty easy after taking the class. We learned how to add fractions. When you add fractions, you have to find a common denominator in order to add them. After that, you only add the numerators and keep the denominator the same. We learned how to add decimals. In order to add decimals, the decimals must be aligned. For example: 3.4+4.50 would look like: 3.4 + 4.50 = 7.90
The decimals HAVE to be aligned, NOT the numbers. We learned how to multiply decimals. When you multiply decimals, the decimals are not aligned, but the numbers. Then you count how many numbers there are behind both of the numbers being multiplied. For example:
3.4 x 4.50 =3.060
The numbers underlined are the numbers behind the decimal. There are three numbers, therefore you must move the decimal point 3 times to the left from the right.
In a warm up problem, we had an entrance ticket that required us to convert a fraction into a decimal. Days when we got things like 5/20 where easy. But we got fractions such as ⅔ where I had to first find the decimals and then find the percentage because I found it to be way easier.
I am so glad I took Master Math 1 this year. I KNOW this class really helped me remember the basic skills I learned so long ago! It also helped me in algebra. In algebra, I was faster at minute math than someone who didn’t take Master Math 1. I knew how to add, multiply, and divide fractions before anyone else did! I know I am prepared for future math classes and I truly hope I take Master Math 2 in the future! I don’t think I could’ve done anything better this year. I think next time I should sit where nobody will distract me from my work.
